Located on the eastern edge of campus, the four-level, 600 car New York Avenue parking structure serves staff and daily campus commuters, as well as special events on campus at Emens Auditorium and other venues at Ball State University.
The cast-in-place concrete garage is clad in brick pre-cast panels and curtain wall, with the intent of responding to the existing campus aesthetic. Key architectural features blend historic and contemporary elements on campus and transparent glass-clad stairs create a beacon of entry to the structure and create a key visual destination point.
The functional design of the structure includes a one-way, center-aisle ramp, which creates safe and efficient circulation through the structure. The garage also accommodates covered bike parking, located immediately off the shared use path. Faculty, staff, and students will be encouraged to drive and ride, storing their bikes in the garage for daily use.
The facility is situated strategically to link the eastern neighborhood to a future master-planned great lawn. A new bus stop along New York Avenue, future perimeter bike track, and the parking structure will be connected to campus by a shared-use bike/pedestrian path.
Additional features include ten charging stations for electric vehicles, natural gas-powered emergency generator, emergency call phones, security cameras, visitor pay stations and stretcher-sized elevator.
