Education

Barrett Bamberger, PE
University of Cincinnati — Project Manager
Project: University of Cincinnati - Teachers College Rehabilitation

“Now that the occupants of our newly renovated Teachers College building have settled into their new space, we would like to extend our sincere gratitude to Champlin/Haupt and the rest of the design team for all their efforts with helping to make this project such a success. The faculty, staff and students are extremely pleased with their new surroundings and we have received many compliments about the warm, elegant, and functional space that Champlin/Haupt designed."

Daniel P Klett
University of Toledo — University Architect
Project: University of Toledo — Gillham Hall College of Education

“The Champlin team conducted programming sessions with all of the departments and major stakeholders within UT’s College of Education as we began the process of renovating Gillham Hall. The result was a space program that captured the College’s newly-created mission, strong departmental identities, and emphasis on learning-directed education. The programming process, with regular owner sign-offs, flowed seamlessly into an efficient design process during which the program elements took on architectural character and became real for us. The overall project, from programming through the multi-phase total-gut renovation, ran like clockwork.“

Dean Parmelee, MD
Wright State University — Associate Dean, Academic Affairs
Project: Wright State University — Boonshoft School of Medicine

“Champlin/Haupt Architects was selected from a list of over 30 qualified design teams for a variety of reasons. Although this firm had previously not worked with the University, it demonstrated exceptional value in its experience for designing academic and technical building programs. Their commitment to sustainability and responsible design solutions was evident, and their leadership respected and maintained an inflexible academic schedule and budget while at the same time producing a highly creative and inspirational building for students, faculty and staff.“

Doug Kaylor
Sinclair Community College — Library Director
Project: Sinclair Community College — Library/Learning Resources Center

“Champlin did a great job of walking us through the process of turning our goals into reality. They stayed focused on the design objectives and put together a proposal that stimulated, encouraged and challenged us to live up to our hopes and ambitions. When we as the client might have compromised the design in order to reach our comfort zone, the designers kept us from falling into the trap of mediocrity. They offered alternative designs, analyzed feedback, and reworked their proposal to meet our ever evolving knowledge and understanding of the project.“

Ray Dobson
University of Cincinnati — Senior Director, Performance & Operations
Project: University of Cincinnati — College Conservatory of Music

“Champlin spent a lot of time with CCM to understand how we currently operate and how we might approach this project with the lowest impact to the student experience. With a project of this size and scope it is a necessity to have a local firm to react quickly when any issues arise. The response time to questions or important decisions has been excellent….I am very pleased with the Champlin team and feel fortunate to have them leading our project for CCM.”

Barb Shergalis
Bowling Green State University — Director/University Architect
Project: Bowling Green University — School of Media and Communication

“On behalf of BGSU School of Media and Communication and our offices, I wanted to thank you for the great work that your firm accomplished for BGSU. The Kuhlin Center is a wonderful new facility on our Campus. The faculty and students are absolutely thrilled with the building, the incredible interiors, the featured technology, classrooms and office spaces. The success of this project was the result of a lot of hard work, communication and diligence from all…. Please know that BGSU is extremely grateful for your work and expertise which allowed this building to be so successfully transformed into a Campus jewel.”

“Champlin’s ability to understand our needs and culture, and to communicate these to other members of the design team, was instrumental in making this project a success. We found them to be both professional and extremely easy to work with, which helped to make this huge task more manageable for us. They interacted well with all our staff, from top level administration down to front line staff workers. Their overall attention to detail and constructability, along with their problem solving skills, helped keep our project on schedule and within budget, while always maintaining a focus on value-driven design.“

Project: UC Health — Psychiatric Service Relocation

“We were fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Champlin Architecture on the planning and design of the relocation of our current 48-bed adult Inpatient Unit and our Emergency Psychiatric Services to another facility off campus. Champlin was very instrumental in turning this daunting task into a very manageable process. The design team brought with them a strong understanding of the regulatory, facility and operational requirements for this type of service. The leadership and design talents resulted in a very creative use of existing space while also maintaining a very tight budget and aggressive project schedule.“

“Just wanted to let the Champlin team know we had our first three cases (in the new Thoracic Operating Room) on Wednesday, and it went fantastic!! Mark McKillip
Clifton Cultural Arts Center — Secretary/Founding Director/Owner’s Representative
Project: Clifton Cultural Arts Center — Arts Center Renovations

“I have had the privilege of working with Champlin since March 2009 and find them to be acutely attuned to an owner's needs while providing creative solutions to challenging issues that arise on renovation projects. Champlin developed our Master Plan for the phased $11.0 million renovation of Clifton School, a 53,000 square foot facility originally constructed in 1906. The initial renovation phase was successfully completed in October 2010, and Champlin has also completed construction documents for our next phase of renovation.“

Our project was completed on time and on budget. I can attest that we achieved this largely through the leadership of Champlin/Haupt and its responsiveness to construction questions that always arise in projects of this size.“
